Granlund Still Uncertain Against Rangers

Greetings from Manhattan, where the Wild went through a 45-minute skate at the iconic Chelsea Piers today. Steps from the Wild locker room was the set of Law & Order SVU — no taping going on today, unfortunately. There’s something strange about watching hockey practice with cruise ships sailing by in the background. Since the rink is a floor up from the ground, the players walked down the fire escape stairs (they’re safe, don’t worry) to the bus.

Onto matters on the ice — Mikael Granlund had another “good” practice according to Head Coach Mike Yeo, but no decision has been made on his availability for Sunday’s game versus the New York Rangers.

“Every day he’s getting better,” Yeo said. “But we’re not sure about tomorrow yet.”

If Yeo’s not sure, we won’t be sure until two hours prior to game time. MSG, the World’s Most Famous Arena, which underwent a three-year, one-billion dollar facelift, is hosting a pair of women’s college basketball games tomorrow before the Wild takes on the Rangers. So there will be no morning skate. Yeo will likely meet the media around 4 p.m. State of Hockey time, so Wild fans (and fantasy hockey folks) you’ll want to be following both @mnwild and @mnwildlive on twitter around that time.

Yeo spoke glowingly of veteran Mike Rupp, who has been out of the lineup but it hasn’t changed his sunny demeanor.

“He’s such a great teammate,” Yeo said. “His presence in the locker room…he’s mean, hard to play against every night.”

eo then said there’s a good chance we will see Rupp soon — so that could mean he’ll either draw in against his former team, or the Broadstreet Bullies on Monday in Philadelphia.

Ever the prankster, Matt Cooke took advantage of some extremely snowy conditions on the ice late in practice today. He scooped up a stick full of ice, skated around to scout out his victim, then poured the snow down Nate Prosser’s shirt. This isn’t the first time the Lighthouse has caught Cooke in the middle of this prank, but it doesn’t get old seeing him pull it.

That’s the only snow the Wild will see this trip. It might be four days before Christmas in New York, but it’s almost 60 here today and sunny. Temperatures tomorrow are expected to be near record highs, close to 70.
