Houston Aeros 2012-13 Record: 13-7-1-2, 29 points, Second Place in South Division
Houston continued its hot streak, winning two of three games during the last week, and moving into second place in the AHL’s South Division. The Aeros have won seven of their last eight contests.
The Aeros visited Cedar Park Friday, earning a 2-1 overtime victory to claim their sixth straight win. Goalie Matt Hackett stole the show with 35 saves, while blueliner Kris Fredheim scored his first goal of the season before leading-scorer Jason Zucker netted the OT winner. The game also marked the return of center Mikael Granlund, who rejoined the lineup after a 12-game absence with an ankle injury.
Houston returned home but saw their win streak come to an end Sunday with a 3-2 loss to Peoria. Forward Charlie Coyle and defenseman Chay Genoway scored for Houston, while Hackett made 21 saves in his first loss since Nov. 16. The Aeros quickly returned to the win column with a 5-1 matinee victory versus San Antonio Tuesday. Forwards David McIntyre, Jarod Palmer and Nick Palmieri each netted a goal and assist, while Hackett stopped 20-of-21 shots to earn the win.
The Aeros play three games in three days this week, visiting Charlotte for a 6 p.m. CT matchup Friday and an 11 a.m. meeting Saturday, before returning home to host Oklahoma City at 5:05 p.m. Sunday.
Wild prospect Granlund recorded a feature video on the Aeros' website, showing off some of his slick puck skills. Wild.com breaks down the video with a running diary.
