Arguably the two most highly skilled plays completed by the Wild this season, each for different reasons. One was a precision passing play with three veterans touching the puck in a matter of seconds, while the other was an outstanding individual effort from a rookie.
First, Tik-Tak-Koivu was one off the prettier passing plays you’ll ever see. July 4 free agent pickups Ryan Suter and Zach Parise had a huge impact on the Wild, and this play highlighted their play with the club this season. Parise led an odd-man rush and dropped the puck back to Suter, who instantly returned it to the winger. Parise then found his season-long running mate, Mikko Koivu, on the backdoor for a tap-in goal.
Jason Zucker signed with the Wild after his sophomore season at the University of Denver and showed glimpses of a budding offensive game at the end of the 2011-12 season. However, on his first-career NHL goal, he showed the whole package. The speedy winger worked the puck in his own end—beating two Detroit Red Wings—before racing down the length of the ice and firing a laser to the blocker side.
