The Minnesota Wild has locked up one of its young blueliners for two more seasons. Minnesota has re-signed Marco Scandella to a two-year contract.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound defenseman has shown the potential to be a top-4 pairing while with the club. After spending most of the 2012-13 season with the Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Houston Aeros, Scandella played in all five of the team’s postseason games in the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the Chicago Blackhawks, posting a goal and an assist. He led team’s defensemen in playoff scoring and ranked fourth in time on ice at 18:01 per game.

In 45 games with Houston this season, he scored 17 points (2-15=17) and earned a plus-2 rating. In parts of three seasons with Minnesota, the 23-year-old has played in 89 NHL games, scoring four goal and adding 11 assists.

The Wild selected the Montreal, Que., native in the second round (55th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
