For Leg 2 of the 2013 Wells Fargo Wild Road Tour, the fun started Sunday night, leaving Saint Paul around 4 and driving to Northeast Minnesota. We enjoyed the movie, Ted (good thing our bus was 18-plus) while our trusty driver Dan gave us a comfy ride - albeit a little struggle with the air conditioning. After a quick stop in Cloquet (we'll see you again Tuesday) to stretch our legs and get some ice cream, we arrived about 4 hours later at Lake Vermillion. I enjoyed a great dinner of Minnesota walleye with my tour-mates which include Josh Harding, Mike Greenlay, Wild staffers Carly and Tim, and of course our driver, Dan the Man (who did solve the AC issue - solid!) Our night ended with a short stint at the hotel's blackjack tables. Stevie B, the dealer, didn't make any friends.
It was odd to sleep in without having my daughter to wake me up, but I still miss the little munchkin. I enjoyed it, even if I did have to listen to Hards brag about getting up at 5:30 to work on Harding's Hope — he later enjoyed an afternoon nap on the bus. After breakfast, our official Day One of the road tour began with a short drive to Ely where Josh, Mike and I recorded some sound bites for the Wild radio affiliate, WELY. We then went to the local park where we got to meet our fans from "up north" and sign some autographs. It was really cool to see the support the Wild has almost five hours from Xcel Energy Center. We didn't leave town without securing a DVD of Moneyball, which we enjoyed on the way to our second stop of Virginia. I had never seen it, and while I might have been asking for spoilers from the rest of the bus, I enjoyed watching it. What a story.
After lunch in Virginia, we went to the local ice rink and were greeted by an awesome turnout of fans, led by the youth hockey Blue Devils. Luckily, the weather was great and we were able to sign autographs for fans outside. After a quick talk to the local media, we again hit the road to travel to Two Harbors, where we will start Day Two.
Our Leg 2 crew is going to enjoy a nice dinner and watch Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final tonight and get ready for Road Tour fun in Two Harbors and Cloquet tomorrow.
