Iowa Wild 2013-14 Record: 1-1-0-0, 2 points, Fifth Place in Midwest Division

The Iowa Wild, the Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, opened its Inaugural Season this past weekend. Iowa split back-to-back games against the Oklahoma City Barons at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

The Wild won its first game in history with a 1-0 shutout Saturday, in front of a record-breaking 10,213 fans for an AHL Opening Night in the history of Iowa hockey. G Johan Gustafsson stopped all 29 shots he faced in his AHL debut and RW Brett Bulmer scored the lone goal. Iowa lost its second match against the Barons on Sunday, falling 4-2. Bulmer and C David Steckel scored, while G Darcy Kuemper made 28 saves for the Wild.

The Wild will travel to Charlotte this weekend for back-to-back games against the Checkers: Saturday at 6 p.m. CT and a Sunday matinee at 12:30 p.m. CT.

CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUES

RW Kurtis Gabriel - Owen Sound (OHL): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft was named an assistant captain Tuesday and has five points (1-4=5) in six games.

D Dylan Labbe - Shawinigan (QMJHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft is a +2 in six games with Shawinigan.

COLLEGE/USHL

D Nolan De Jong - Michigan (Big Ten): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft started his freshman season by helping the Wolverines top Boston College and RIT.

D John Draeger - Michigan State (Big Ten): Minnesota’s third-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft did not play in Michigan State’s 4-1 victory vs. Western Ontario Wednesday and begins his sophomore the season this weekend at Massachusetts.

C Adam Gilmour - Boston College (Hockey East): The Wild’s fourth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft began his freshman season in Boston with a loss at Michigan and a victory vs. RPI over the weekend.

LW Mario Lucia - Notre Dame (Hockey East): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft helped the Irish earn victories against Western Michigan in a home-and-home series this weekend after netting a goal in an exhibition game vs. Guelph Oct. 6.

LW Louis Nanne - Souix Falls (USHL): Minnesota’s seventh-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft is currently sidelined following shoulder surgery this summer and is expected to be out until mid-December.

D Gustav Olofsson - Colorado College (NCHC): The Wild’s first pick, a second-round selection, in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft begins his freshman season with the Tigers vs. Minnesota Duluth this weekend.

C Avery Peterson - Souix City (USHL): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft begins his first year in Sioux City, including a goal Friday against Tri City.

D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (NCHC): The Wild’s fifth-round selection in 2011 NHL Entry Draft had a point in each game during a weekend split with Bentley (1-1=2).

D Carson Soucy - Minnesota Duluth (NCHC): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in 2013 NHL Entry Draft helped the Bulldogs to a win and tie vs. Michigan Tech on the weekend.

EUROPE

C Christoph Bertschy - SC Bern (Swiss): The Wild’s sixth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft has posted two goals in his second full season with Bern.

D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (Sweden): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft has three assists to start his third season with Lulea.

Alexandre Belanger - Rouyn-Noranda (QMJHL): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in this summer’s 2013 NHL Entry Draft has posted a 3-2-0 record in six games in his return to Rouyn-

Noranda.

Steven Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and the Harvard Crimson will begin play with an exhibition vs. McGill Saturday.
