Another Minnesota Wild player will skate for Gold at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Forward Nino Niederreiter will represent Team Switzerland at the Games in Sochi, Russia.
The forward has 21 points (8-13=21) in 44 games with Minnesota this season. He is fifth on the team in scoring and leads the Wild with a plus-8 rating. The Wild acquired Niederreiter over the summer for Cal Clutterbuck and a third-round pick.
The 21-year-old represented the Swiss at the 2012-13 World Championships helping lead the team to a surprising Silver Medal. In 10 games, he had five goals and three assists. It will be the fourth time Niederreiter has represented Switzerland in International competition.
The Wild has had a number of players participate in the Olympics. At the 2006 Games, Daniel Tjarnqvist won a Gold Medal with Sweden, while Koivu won Silver and Filip Kuba won Bronze with the Czech Republic, and Marian Gaborik (Slovakia) and Brian Rolston (USA) both skated for their countries.
