GAMEDAY: Wild at Carolina

Wednesday, 08.06.2014 / 5:15 AM

Minnesota Wild (9-4-4: 22 points, T-7th in Western Conference, 4th in Central Division) at Carolina Hurricanes (6-7-3: 15 points, 9th in Eastern Conference, 4th in Metropolitain Division)
The Wild aims to win in the one building the team has never won - PNC Arena in Raleigh (0-3-1). Minnesota hasn’t actually played a game in Raleigh since Nov. 15, 2009, a 5-4 loss that saw Robbie Earl and John Scott both score their first NHL goals.

Minnesota comes into the game 6-1-2 in its last nine games, after a well-played 3-2 loss in Washington to start off this two-game road trip Thursday. The Wild has points in its last three road games (1-0-2).

Improved special teams has played a big part in the team’s surge as of late. The Wild is 3-for-9 on the power play in the last three games, while allowing just one PPG on 10 shorthanded chances.

Clayton Stoner did not participate in today's morning skate. Matt Dumba is expected to play tonight alongside Nate Prosser on the blue line. This will be Dumba's 10th game with the Wild, so if he is in tonight the first year of his contract officially kicks in.

The Wild, which is tied for the NHL lead in home wins, returns home after this game for a three-game homestand starting Wednesday against Toronto.

Carolina has won a pair of one-goal games versus Eastern Conference foes, after a six-game losing streak that started with a 3-1 loss in Minnesota Oct. 24.
Meet the Caps If You're Going

With regular goalies Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin out with injury, Justin Peters has played seven straight games. He’s 2-5-0 with a 2.61 GAA and a .912 SV%.

Jeff Skinner was injured in that Oct. 24 game (along with Ward) and hasn’t played since, but he is still tied for the Carolina scoring lead with Eric Staal.
One word - tailgating. Make sure you walk around the PNC Arena parking lot, home of the best (only?) NHL tailgate. Try the fried turkey, trust us.

The Wild will wear its WHITE sweaters tonight.
Who's Hot Gameday Media
Mikael Granlund had his career-best five-game point streak (1-6=7) end Tuesday – the longest by a Wild player this season. But on Thursday he recorded an assist, skated a season-high 18:13 and recorded a career-best five shots. Granlund has eight points (2-6=8) in the last seven games.

Zach Parise has six points (2-4=6) in his four-game road trip. His 10 points (4-6=10) since Oct. 22 rank T-6th in the NHL. He also ranks second in the NHL with five PPG and 78 shots.

Fans can guess who's going to be hot with the Wild's HotBox Fantasy Challenge presented by the Pioneer Press for a chance to win great prizes.
