GAMEDAY: Wild at Philadelphia

Wednesday, 08.06.2014 / 4:50 AM

Minnesota looks to snap Philadelphia’s eight-game home win streak tonight. The Wild is coming off a 4-1 loss last night in New York to the Rangers. The Wild took a train for the first time in team history, leaving Penn Station at 11:02 a.m. and arriving in Central Philly at 12:06 a.m.

UPDATED: Zach Parise will miss tonight's game at Philadelphia with a lower-body injury.

The Wild and the rest of the NHL take a mandatory three-day break from practices and games Dec. 24-26. Minnesota will leave MSP Friday AM, and pre-game skate in Winnipeg before playing the Jets that evening.

Philadelphia is 3-1-1 in its last five games but is coming off a 6-3 loss at Columbus on Saturday night. The Flyers haven’t lost at home since Nov. 7, having outscored opponents 32-15 in the last eight home games. Philadelphia has scored four or more goals in six of those eight outings.

Meet the Flyers

Claude Giroux paces Philadelphia with 31 points (9-22=31) and four game-winners. Former Bemidji State Beaver Matt Read is the Flyers’ leading goal scorer with 10.

You’ve got to stay out of the penalty box against Philadelphia, which draws a lot of power plays (top 10 in the NHL at home) and has scored 23 of its 88 goals on the man advantage.

Former Columbus Blue Jacket Steve Mason is 13-9-4 with a 2.40 GAA and a .922 SV%.

If You’re Going

Lauren Hart is one of the best anthem singers in the NHL. Of course, Philadelphia knows a thing or two about good anthem singers. So, the Flyers splice Lauren’s voice in with legendary Kate Smith. It’s a can’t miss. Lauren’s national anthem rendition was used in Miracle.

The Wild will wear its WHITE sweaters tonight.

Who’s Hot

Ryan Suter holds a Wild season-high six-game assist streak (5), his longest assist streak since a six-game run (7) with Nashville Dec. 11-22, 2010. His 21 assists this season lead the Wild .

Probable Lineup

Yeo isn't going into specifics on the lineup, but here's a guess based on recent moves:

Here's the defense:

Between the Pipes

Niklas Backstrom makes starts on back-to-back nights for the first time since the final two regular season games of last season.

Yeo Quote of the Day

You can tell that confidence is shaken right now with individuals and as a group. When they scored the first goal, we tightened up a little bit. When they scored the second goal, we tightened up completely.

View from the Press Box

Since we don’t quite know the lineup yet, it’s still unsure who will be the healthy scratches. Clayton Stoner is confirmed as a healthy scratch, but we're still unsure about the forwards.

Josh Harding is on Injured Reserve, but is expected to return Dec. 27 after undergoing an adjustment in his medication.
