Wild Signs Defenseman Andre Lakos

Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League club has signed defenseman Andre Lakos (pronounced AWN-dray LA-kaws) to a 2007-08 contract.

“Andre has been a top performer at the international level the last two seasons,” said Tom Lynn, Assistant General Manager/ Hockey Operations. “We have seen his game mature, and feel he is ready to re-establish himself in North America.”

Lakos, 27 (7/29/79), notched 44 points (16-28=44), 125 penalty minutes (PIM) and a +27 rating in 52 games with EC Salzburg of the Austrian League this season. He led team defensemen and ranked sixth on the team in scoring and finished second on the club in PIM as Salzburg claimed the 2006-07 League championship. The Vienna, Austria-native has played with former Wild center Darby Hendrickson in Salzburg the past two seasons. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound defenseman has represented Austria at the World Championships the past six years and eight of the last nine overall (1999-00, 2002-07). Lakos recorded three goals and an assist in six games at the 2007 World Championships in Moscow. He also appeared in four games for Austria at the 2002 Olympics. Lakos was originally selected by the New Jersey Devils in the third round (95th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
