Development Camp 2009: Gillies Day 6 Diary
Home: Development Camp 2009
Throughout Camp, Colton Gillies will provide his thoughts on the experience. Gillies, a 6-foot-4, 189-pound forward from White Rock, B.C., was Minnesota's first choice in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft (No. 16 overall), and is attending his third such camp.

7:45 p.m. CDT

I was very excited to sleep in today, so, as you can imagine, I was very angry when the fire alarm in the hotel went off at 7:30! I did what any young adult would do and ignored it and tried to go back to sleep. Let's face it, there hasn't been a fire in this hotel the last three years I've been to camp and the alarm has gone off every time!  (But just because I'm an idiot, don't you be one and get out of the building when an alarm goes off, right Bruce?). After laying in bed for a bit, I decided to get some breakfast, (a bagel and cream cheese), and head to the rink.
Power skating was very beneficial today and our skating has definitely become more efficient in the past week. Right after the skate we had an upper body workout ... a.k.a. the Beach Body Workout, so you know the guys were working out hard today!  After the workout, I had an amazing two-hour nap.
At 4 p.m. we had Fight Class with Jeremy Clark, which was very cool. Now I can run back to the rink and practice what we learned on Travis Green ... poor guy!!!  OK, I'll be honest, he runs my show ... and I have to be nice to him so he'll treat my wounds!!
After showering, I met up with Burnzie (Brent Burns) and we went to the Twins game for a few innings and a few laughs. We only went to the game for a few innings because it's Saturday night and ... remember UFC 100!!!!!  We got home just in time to watch all the fights, although the only one I really cared about was the George St. Pierre and Thiago Alves bout. GSP won, of course, so the day ended very well.
I would like to add a Happy Birthday shoutout to my friend Annie, who is celebrating her 11th birthday tomorrow!! Have a great day, and I'll see you next week.

Until tomorrow,
Colton Gillies
