Randy Carlyle Postgame Quotes

ANAHEIM COACH RANDY CARLYLE
Saturday, January 07, 2006 versus Minnesota

What did you think of your efforts tonight?

“I thought emotionally we were kind of down for whatever reason.  You go back to back sometimes, we played last night in Dallas and it was an emotional game.  We found a way to let Dallas back into the game.  We didn’t seem to garner any energy.  We had a one to one hockey game, then they get a fortunate bounce off the end board.  I notice that they didn’t bother changing it because they got the same bounce in the third period.  That on a dump in, then the puck came back out to the face off circle.  So those are the kind of things that go against you.  And nights like this we have to find a way to overcome that.”

The defensive breakdown, that has to be a little troubling.

“Again, we got beat on a one on one play on their power play goal, then the Gaborik (Marian) goal was a nice pass and nice play on their part.  They threw an area pass, our defense just finished taking a shot, and they blocked a shot.  We didn’t recover back to the middle of the ice enough.  That’s what led to that, and it didn’t seem like we had much going after that.”

Teemu Selanne

Were you guys down a little bit tonight.

“There’s no excuse.  That’s why this league is so tough.  Especially the nights you play back to back, and we arrived in the city at 3 o’clock in the morning.  You don’t have much time to recover.  You just have to play smarter.  Especially when you play against this team in this building, you can’t give them a lead.  The first goal was a pretty lucky one.  I don’t know what’s wrong with the board, it just happened, it happened another time too.  So, and a couple mistakes it cost us a goal.  We know we’ve got to do better.  The energy level was not there either, still that’s no excuse.”
