Wild Prospects Report - Jan. 11

HOUSTON AEROS (27-9-1-1, 1st place in West Division) – Erik Westrum and Patrick O’Sullivan were picked to represent the Houston Aeros at the 2006 Rbk Hockey All Star Game on February 1...Both will play for PlanetUSA in the contest...The Aeros opened the week with a 4-2 win at home against the Toronto Marlies last night…G Josh Harding posted a franchise-record 56 saves, including 26 in the second period, and C Erik Westrum (2-1=3) and LW Kirby Law (1-2=3) each posted three-point nights to reclaim the top two spots in the AHL points race…Rookie D Clayton Stoner added a goal and an assist and D Curtis Murphy chipped in two helpers to help Houston win for the ninth time in 10 games overall and for the eighth time in nine home games…The Aeros hosts Iowa on Thursday and Friday and San Antonio on Sunday this week…Westrum leads the AHL in scoring with 53 points (16-37=53) and Law is second with 52 points (23-29=52)…Murphy is tied for second in defensemen scoring with 31 points (4-27=31)…C Patrick O’Sullivan ranks tied for first in rookie scoring with 37 points (18-19=37)…Harding is 21-7-0 with a 2.62 GAA and a .924 save %.

The Aeros split a pair of games last week…Jiri Hudler scored two of Grand Rapids’ remarkable five third-period power play goals, and Valterri Filpulla won it with a man advantage goal with 2:17 left, as the Grand Rapids Griffins rallied from a three-goal deficit for an improbable 6-5 victory to snap the Houston Aeros’ eight-game winning streak Friday night at Toyota Center...C Rem Murray, Murphy, C Petr Taticek and RW Matt Foy each had a goal and an assist for Houston, which had won seven in a row at home to come within one victory of a franchise record…LW Peter Olvecky added a goal and Harding finished with 32 saves for the Aeros…O’Sullivan notched his second hat trick, Murray and Law scored a goal apiece and Harding had 36 saves and a career-best two assists, as Houston defeated the San Antonio Rampage 5-3 at SBC Center on Thursday…Foy added two assists for the Aeros.

Future Wild

CHL

C Kyle Bailey - Portland (WHL): Has scored 12 goals and 21 assists for 33 points in 36 games with Portland. Ranks fifth on his team in scoring and third in penalty minutes with 80. Owns four power play tallies this season.

LW Patrick Bordeleau - Val-D’Or (QMJHL): Has scored 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points in 38 games with Val-D’Or. Ranks fourth on the team in scoring and has scored seven power play goals and two game-winning goals.

D Riley Emmerson - Tri-City (WHL): Has scored one goal in 36 games with Tri-City with 63 penalty minutes.

LW Matt Kassian - Kamloops (WHL): Has scored four goals and three assists for seven points in 42 games with Kamloops. Three of his goals have come on the power play.

LW Benoit Pouliot - Sudbury (OHL): Scored 17 goals and 16 assists for 33 points in 24 games with Sudbury. Leads the team in goals and plus/minus rating (+12), and ranks third in scoring. Has seven power play goals and three shorthanded goals. Collected five assists and 14 penalty minutes in helping Canada to a gold medal victory at the World Junior Championships.

D A.J. Thelen - Prince Albert (WHL): Has scored eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 42 games. Is tied for the team lead with five power play goals and ranks tied for fourth in scoring.

College

D Anthony Aiello - Boston College (Hockey East): Has scored four assists in 16 games with B.C.

RW Mike Erickson - Western Michigan (CCHA): Scored five goals and five assists for 10 points in 20 games with Western Michigan. Ranks third on the team in scoring and has four power play goals to his credit.

C Danny Irmen - Minnesota (WCHA): Scored seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in 13 games, and ranks tied for fifth on the team in scoring despite missing nine games with a broken finger.

F Ryan Jones - Miami (CCHA): Scored nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 21 games with  Miami. Ranks tied for first on the team in scoring and second in goals.

C Kyle Wilson - Colgate (ECAC): Scored 15 goals and eight assists for 23 points in 20 games. Ranks first on the team in goals and third in scoring. Leads the team with eight power play goals and is tied for first with three game-winning goals.

Europe

C Morten Madsen - Frolunda Jr. (SWE):

Scored six goals and 20 assists for 26 points in 25 games with Frolunda. Ranks fourth on the team in scoring and second in assists. Has played three games for Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League.

D Georgi Misharin - CSKA Moscow (RUS): Scored one goal and nine assists for 10 points in 36 games with CSKA Moscow.

RW Julien Sprunger - HC Fribourg (SUI): Scored 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in 29 games with HC Fribourg. Scored two goals and three assists for seventh place Switzerland at the World Juniors.

D Mikhail Tyulyapkin - Novokuznetsk (RUS):

Scored two goals and two assists for four points in 22 games.

Goaltenders

Anton Khudobin - Saskatoon (WHL): Posted a 4-1-0 record with a 2.20 goals against average and a .932 save percentage for second-place Russia at the World Juniors.

Miroslav Kopriva - Austin (CHL): Owns a 7-1-0 record with a 2.00 goals against average and a .946 save percentage. Named the CHL Goaltender of the Week on December 5, and was re-assigned from Houston on January 7.

Kristofer Westblom - Kelowna (WHL): Owns an 9-5-1 record with a 3.50 goals against average and a .870 save percentage.
