MINNESOTA COACH JACQUES LEMAIRE QUOTES

Mitchell (Willie) was noble, but he had you down to four regular defensemen for quite a while.
“Well, it’s a hard situation for a player. If it happens to a forward it’s not as bad. You know when you have a defenseman out, and then you go on and get the ten and five for fighting, it’s no doubt it shows that Willie is a team player. He didn’t appreciate what Doan (Shane) had done. In a way I’m glad that he did it, on the other side I’m not because it’s not good for the team. So really I’m not because the team comes first. But, like I’m saying he showed he’s a team player by standing up.”
Eventually these penalties are going to kill you guys.
“Yeah, that’s too much. A lot of them, we deserved them. It’s only bad decisions at times they guys are making. You look at just a couple that I remember quick there, Foster (Kurtis) when he puts the stick on the other guys stomach, it is a penalty. Pascal (Dupuis) pulling the guy, pulling his feet off. These are penalties that you shouldn’t take, and you know what, it changed the game too.”
About the short handed goal.
“It was a good one to get on the PK (power kill), especially being in the penalty box all night. I thought it was a suspect call on Foster (Kurtis) getting the guy going to the net. But like I said, we were killing all night, and it was nice to get that one. That may have taken the wind out of their sails a little bit. Especially since they played last night. They came at us hard in the third period, but they ran out of gas a little bit. We continued to play strong and played good through the neutral zone.”
