Schultz Takes Down Henry In Wild In The Aisles

Rich Bolnick (left) and Nick Schultz are jubilant after racking up more than $1,000 worth of grocery items.

Experience overcame height on Wednesday morning at St. Paul’s Midway Cub Foods when four-time veteran grocery shopper, Nick Schultz defeated fellow Wild defenseman Alex Henry and WCCO’s Amelia Santaniello during Wild In The Aisles. Schultz, who has had some epic battles in the past with former Wild goaltender Dwayne Roloson, racked up $1,015.25 in groceries to cruise to the victory. He was helped by his partner, Rich Bolnick of Champlin, who displayed speed and exceptional cart-filling ability.

In his shopping spree debut, Henry and his partner, Bob Wolff of Stillwater, turned in a solid second place performance with $708.22 worth of groceries was accumulated. Santaniello and Dixie Dibble of Brooklyn Center, brought up the rear with a $486.51 output.

The efforts of the celebrities, along with help from Cub Foods (which contributed $2,790.02), Coca-Cola and Old Dutch, helped provide $5,000 to the Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank.

The teams had five minutes to load up their carts with the most expensive items they could find, in addition to some required items like Coke and Old Dutch products. The rules specifically stipulated that there couldn’t be more than five of one item, but that didn’t stop Schultz and Henry from immediately darting for the Spice racks for the small, but expensive bottles of paprika and thyme.

Santaniello protested the outcome, but judges deliberated and determined that the Schultz victory would stand because he didn’t have more than five bottles of one particular spice.

For the win, Bolnick received a $500 Cub Foods gift certificate, a Wild jersey, and two tickets to a Wild hockey game. Wolff and Dibble each received a $100 gift certificate in addition to a jersey and tickets. Contestants were chosen at random from an in-store drawing involving all 53 Twin Cities Cub Foods stores.
