EDMONTON COACH CRAIG MACTAVISH QUOTES
Sunday, March 12, 2006 versus Minnesota

Can you give your assessment in a game that might go your way in a victory and then turned into a one goal loss?

“Tight team, very tight team.  Taking a bunch of penalties, every situation, even the most innocuous play in our own end we turned into a life and death battle.  And very little puck awareness. Took a lot of penalties, two five on three goals.  Prongers (Chris) penalty, which I thought was a bad one to start, a bad call.  Hork (Shawn Horcoff) gets surprised by Gaborik (Marian).  Has to hook him to give us another five on three to get the five on three goal.  After that, it’s just the mentality.  We take the lead and it’s just the expectation is that bad things are going to happen because we’re down this road and in that situation right now, and when you expect bad things, bad things generally happen.  We’re so tight on every play in our own zone, that it opens up room there, and the majority of our players aren’t on the top of their games.  A lot of cycling, trouble making plays, and when the pressure’s on, it exposes those weaknesses.”

Dwayne Roloson

A lot of excitement coming back.  What’s your assessment of tonight?

“Well it felt good.  But being up and loosing again, we’ve got to nip this in the bud right away here.  We play these guys again on Tuesday.  We’ve got to get a win on Tuesday.  As team, we’ve been playing well, but we’ve just had leads and we’ve just sort of gave them up here.   So we’ve got to battle through everything and start playing well with a lead.”

Assess your emotions tonight, and the ultimate disappointment at the end.

“I try not to worry about who we are playing or anything.  I just try to go out there and focus on the game.  So, I didn’t really get to hacked up for the game, I just gave our guys a chance to win, and not looking back.  It was unfortunate, especially that we lost.  They’re the team behind us, and we’ve got to be ready to go on Tuesday.”
