Wild Recalls Erik Westrum

Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled center Erik Westrum from the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Houston Aeros.

Westrum, 26 (7/26/79), ranks second in the AHL in scoring with 92 points (31-61=92) in 68 games this season and his 61 assists leads the league. The native of Minneapolis, Minn., made his NHL debut against the Wild on March 7, 2004 and appeared in 15 NHL games, notching two points (1-1=2) during a season-ending stint with Phoenix in 2003-04.

He scored 168 points (69-99=168) in 161 games as a member of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers from 1997-2001.  Westrum helped lead Apple Valley High School to the 1996 Minnesota State High School Hockey Championship and was originally selected by Phoenix in the seventh round (187th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Westrum was acquired by the Wild from Phoenix, along with defenseman Dustin Wood in exchange for defenseman Zbynek Michalek on August 26, 2005.  He will wear sweater number seven with Minnesota.
