TEAM-SIGNED MINNESOTA WILD STREET POLE BANNERS BEING SOLD TO BENEFIT DULUTH AND BILOXI HOCKEY ARENAS
RARE BANNERS AVAILABLE FOR $1,000 APIECE TO HELP REBUILD DAMAGED ARENAS
The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Minnesota Wild has announced that the team is selling team-signed street pole banners, with proceeds benefiting hockey arenas in Biloxi, Mississippi and Duluth, Minnesota.
The State of Hockey street pole banners (60” by 30”), which adorned the streets of Saint Paul this past fall, have been signed by each member of the team and can be purchased at wild.com. All proceeds will benefit Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Youth Hockey Association (GCYHA) and the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association (DAHA). Both the GCYHA and the DAHA saw their home arenas damaged in the past year and are currently fundraising in an effort to rebuild them.
Last summer the Mississippi Coast Coliseum took a direct hit from Hurricane Katrina, causing more than $8 million worth of damage to the multi-functional facility. The arena’s hockey-related items were hardest hit, as the brunt of the storm left standing water on the arena floor, causing severe damage to the rink, boards, the arena’s Zamboni and various other facets of the arena’s hockey operation. Half of the proceeds from the Wild’s street pole banner sale will go directly to the GCYHA, which is currently accepting donations to help repair the Coliseum, which had served as its home rink since 1983.
An electrical fire destroyed Peterson Arena, the DAHA’s home rink, this past year. The 30-year-old structure was completely destroyed, and plans are underway to fundraise and build a new rink for youth and high school hockey in the Duluth area. Half of the proceeds from the sale of the Wild street pole banners will benefit this cause.
