O’Sullivan Added To Team USA For World Championships

Patrick O’Sullivan scored five goals and eight assists over three World Junior Championships with Team USA. He scored two goals in America’s 2004 gold medal game victory over Canada.
Patrick O’Sullivan’s performance with the Houston Aeros this past season certainly caught the attention of Minnesota Wild fans eagerly awaiting his Wild debut. USA Hockey also took notice.

O’Sullivan was added to the Team USA roster at the World Championships, which began on May 6 in Latvia. Team USA posted a 2-1-0 record in the preliminary round and lost 4-0 to Finland today in the first game of the qualifying round. The United States currently ranks fourth in Group E. The top four teams in each moving on to next week’s quarterfinal round.

The 5-11, 190-pound center is coming off a remarkable rookie campaign with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. Just 21 years old, he piled up a Houston-record 47 goals, good enough for third in the League. The Wild’s second round pick in 2003 also added 46 assists for 93 points in being named the AHL Rookie of the Year. He also led the Aeros in playoff scoring with five goals and five assists in eight games.

The Winston Salem, North Carolina-native has plenty of international experience. Prior to this season, he represented his country three straight years at the World Junior Championships, which included a gold medal victory in 2004. He also played in the 2001-02 World Under-18 championships, and the 2000-01 World Under-17 championships.

O’Sullivan will be the sixth Wild representative at the World Championships. Mikko Koivu (Finland), Nick Schultz (Canada) and Martin Skoula (Czech Republic), are joined by prospects Morten Madsen (Denmark) and Grigory Misharin (Russia).
