Wild Re-Signs Brent Burns

Brent Burns is one of three Wild first round picks to play in the NHL the same year he was drafted.
Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has re-signed D Brent Burns to a multi-year contract.

Burns, 21 (3/9/85), skated in a career-high 72 games with Minnesota in 2005-06 and recorded 16 points (4-12=16) and 32 penalty minutes (PIM) while averaging 14:07 of time on ice.  The 6-foot-4, 210-pound native of Ajax, Ontario saw action as both a forward and defenseman last year.  Burns has skated in 108 career NHL contests and notched 22 points (5-17=22) and 44 PIM in two seasons with the Wild.

He was originally selected by Minnesota in the first round (20th overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft and became the team’s third first round draft pick to play in the NHL the same year he was drafted as he tallied six points (1-5=6) in 36 games during his rookie campaign in 2003-04.  Burns also participated in the 2004 World Junior Hockey Championships, collecting six assists and 20 PIM in six games for silver-medalist Team Canada.

Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
