LEAVITT WRITES ONLINE BLOG FOR AEROS.COM

ROOKIE LEAVITT PENS AEROS.COM BLOG

SUGAR LAND, Texas - Aeros rookie center and resident comedian Alex Leavitt has agreed to be a regular contributor to Aeros.com during training camp. Leavitt was the ECHL’s Rookie of the Year in 2005-06, becoming the first rookie in 15 seasons to lead the league in scoring while helping the Alaska Aces to the Kelly Cup title. Leavitt weighs in on the heat, Houston and his new roommate. Laughs are optional. Aeros.com unveils the “Leavitt Blog”.

Last night the team had a good meeting. It was nice to meet all the guys and to see where everyone played. It’s always kind of awkward at AHL camp especially if you didn’t attend the NHL camp. The coaching staff did a good job, the transition was nice and smooth.

We took care of all the particulars and as usual went to Hooters and checked out the menu. I really like it for the food. It’s why I go there, it’s healthy and the atmosphere is nice and quiet. It’s my type of place.

Me and my roommate Paul Albers went back to the room. We were tired, we’ve been skating here the last couple of days, and the travel was wearing us down. We watched a bunch of TV, but there wasn’t much on. We tried to rent a movie and it didn’t work, and because we’re the two laziest guys on the planet, we had an early bed time.

This morning was the physicals. It was about my sixth in the last month. Every doctor in North America now knows the ins and outs of my body. But it’s another chance to meet some of the guys and talk to them away from the rink. There’s a lot of waiting around at the doctor’s office, it’s a good chance to talk to the guys and to get to know them. There was a very pretty nurse working there too, and I thought about asking for her number, but I didn’t have the nerves to talk to her. Maybe at some time this season I’ll fake an injury and get back there (laughing while typing).

The skate today was good. Obviously the ice in Sugar Land is a little different than the ice in Canada. But for it being 80 degrees they do a great job keeping it up to par. The scrimmage was very good. It was high tempo. We started off well. It slowed down a little bit in the end. The guys were getting tired, but I think everyone went pretty hard. It was a good day.
