Meet The Mo-Bros

Sunday, 11.08.2009 / 10:55 PM / Features
By Glen Andresen  - Managing Editor
Last week, we learned that several Minnesota Wild players would be growing mustaches this month in support of Movember, which is "changing the face of men's health" by raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer research. Wild defenseman Nick Schultz has a friend whose father is afflicted with prostate cancer.

If you would like to donate to the Mo-Bro's cause and send a message along to the Wild players, you can do so here.

Schultz entered he and his teammates into the Movember.com contest, which is governed by the following rules:

Once registered, each "bro" must start clean-shaven on November 1
  • There is to be no joining the "mo" to the sideburns, which would be termed a beard
  • There is to be no joining of the "handlebars" to the chin, which would constitute a goatee.
  • A small complimentary growth under the lower lip (a tickler) is allowed.
There is even a mustache style guide on the website with names for every conceivable type of mustache, so after one week, we'll take a look at some of the Minnesota Mo Bros progress by looking at their preseason headshots and putting them next to photos that were taken on Friday. Finally, we'll try to ascertain what look each is going for.

Brent Burns has the close cropped hair to go with the long handle bars. It's a work in progress, but you have to think this is going to be a solid look right around Thanksgiving.
Cal Clutterbuck may not have completely followed the rules, since he's been sporting a goatee all year, then had a perfect stache on November 1. Still, it doesn't appear that Clutterbuck has any problems sprouting facial hair. Eat your heart out, Clark Gable.
It looks as if Chuck Kobasew is bringing in a Brian Rolston soul patch to go along with his caterpillar. Not sure if he's aiming for the After Eight look, but he's still got three weeks to switch it up. Let's hope he does, because I'm intimidated just looking at him right now.
Look at the confidence! The swagger! Slap a stache on John Scott and he looks like he should be riding a horse in a men's cologne commercial. Scott is the early leader in the clubhouse for best stache.
Greg Zanon says he loves trying new things with his facial hair, so this competition is right up his alley. He's also adding some flair with a soul patch to go with the fire red cheek streaks.
Don't worry, Kyle Brodziak. There's still time for this thing to grow into the picture of masculinity. But hey, the guy scored two goals in his first game with the wisps, so why change up a good thing?
