Greetings from the media room at Verizon Center in downtown Washington DC where I am charging my phone, because at 3:15 this morning I didn't feel like figuring out where I had packed my charger.

I have been joined at this optional pre-game skate by eight players, including Robbie Earl, who joined the team from Houston this morning. Chuck Kobasew is day-to-day with an upper body injury. Kobasew is here receiving treatment but is not on the ice. Earl flew in from Cleveland and was at the rink before any of us today

I tell you what, we have a resilient group. We arrived at the hotel around 2:45 am, and I'm surprised we have as many players as we do here. They'll be taking shots on Josh Harding, leading me to believe that he will be between the pipes tonight.

Fancy hotel here in DC. They even put my initials on the pillowcase. Or maybe RS stood for Ritz-Sheraton?

It was a smooth night last night despite some turbulence coming into Dulles from the remnants of the tropical storm. It's then a fun 40-minute busride on mostly a two-lane freeway into downtown, along the Potomac. Lots of trees on the windy road, it is pretty scary.

But never fear because Joe the bus driver was there. Joe is a WW II vet who answers "I don't get into that stuff" when asked how old he is. We believe it starts with an 8. Joe says the key is no coffee or tea, and boy that means some members of our media and staff are in trouble. Joe has been driving teams around this town for 36 years.

The guys will eat lunch around 12:30, with a power play meeting at 12>45 in the meal room. Kudos to our hotel staff for getting us a nice LCD tv for no extra charge.

That's it for now. Hopefully a nap this afternoon after catching up with former Houston Aeros intern Kelly, now working for the Caps. My old college roomate is coming to the game tonight as well.
