G Brust named ECHL star of the week
Barry Brust of the Florida Everblades is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 18-24.

The 26 year old went 2-0-0 and allowed only three goals in back-to-back wins against Gwinnett while posting a goals-against average of 1.50 and a save percentage of .952. He made 31 saves in a 3-2 win on Jan. 22 and then stopped 28 shots in a 5-1 win on Jan. 23 to extend his winning streak to six games.

Signed by Minnesota of the National Hockey League to a multi-year contract in July 2008, Brust is 9-2-2 and leads the league with a goals-against average of 2.26 and a save percentage of .925 while also playing in the American Hockey League where he is 2-1-0 with a goals-against average of 2.43 and a save percentage of .904 in three games for Houston. He has played in the ECHL his first two professional seasons and was second in the ECHL as a rookie in 2004-05 with a goals-against average of 1.96 while going 27-9-4 with four shutouts and a save percentage of .928 in 42 regular season games for Reading. In the Kelly Cup Playoffs he was 4-4 and finished second with a goals-against average of 1.74 and two shutouts while ranking third with a save percentage of .943 and fifth with 233 saves and 481 minutes. He was 3-3-0 with a goals-against average of 3.00 and a save percentage of .906 in six games for the Royals in 2005-06 while also playing in the AHL where he was 19-14-1 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.71 and a save percentage of .916 in 35 games for Manchester.

Selected in the third round (73rd overall) by Minnesota in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Brust appeared in 11 games for the Los Angeles Kings in 2006-07 and was 2-4-1 with a goals-against average of 3.70 and a save percentage of .878. The Swan River, Manitoba native has played five seasons in the AHL and is 64-47-7 with eight shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.47 and a save percentage of .917 in 127 regular season games with Manchester and Houston from 2005-10. He teamed with former ECHL goaltender Nolan Schaefer in 2007-08 to win the Harry “Hap” Holmes Memorial Award, the award presented to the goaltender(s) appearing in at least 25 games for the team allowing the fewest goals in the regular season. Playing for Houston, Brust appeared in a career-high 43 games and was 24-16-3 while ranking sixth in the league with a goals-against average of 2.27.
