The Wild has won 14 straight home meetings with Edmonton, outscoring the Oilers 50-18. That’s tied for the longest current home win streak by one team over another (Nashville vs. Columbus). Minnesota is 17-for-62 (27.4%) on the power play in that stretch against the Oilers, including 4-for-6 tonight. The Oilers have scored two goals or less in 13 of the 14 losses.

Minnesota improved to 9-0-1 all-time in home openers, including nine straight wins.

C Mikko Koivu registered his ninth career two-goal game and his 15th career three-point game. Koivu notched his second two-goal game in two home games dating back to last season’s finale, April 10 against Dallas. Koivu paces the Wild with five points (3-2=5) in three games this season.

C Matt Cullen, born in Virginia, Minn., and raised in Moorhead, Minn., had a goal and an assist in his first game at Xcel Energy Center since signing as a free agent July 1. He has four points (2-2=4) in three games this season.

RW Antti Miettinen recorded a goal and an assist. The Wild improved to 14-2-2 all-time when Miettinen scores a goal at home.

LW Andrew Brunette posted his first two-assist game since Jan. 27, 2010 vs. Detroit.

G Niklas Backstrom made 24 saves and improved to 12-0-0 with a 1.16 GAA and a .955 SV% at home against Edmonton in his career. That is the NHL’s longest current start of career home win streak vs. one team.

The Wild has scored first in each of its three games this season.

Minnesota has scored seven of its eight goals this season on the power play. In its first three games last season, the Wild scored six of its eight goals with the man advantage. Minnesota is 7-for-15 (46.7%) on the power play this season.

The Wild recorded its seventh all-time four or more PPG at home, and 10th overall. The last came Feb. 14, 2010, against Vancouver.

Prior to the game, Brunette’s overtime goal against Colorado in Game 7 of the 2003 Western Conference Quarterfinal was selected as the Wild’s top moment in the 10-year team history.
