C Anze Kopitar recorded a goal and an assist, and also scored in the shootout, as the Los Angeles Kings edged the Minnesota Wild 3-2 in front of 17,094 at Xcel Energy Center.

G Niklas Backstrom made 32 saves, C John Madden and D Nick Schultz each scored a first period goal for the Wild, which plays host to Washington on Thursday.

C John Madden skated in his 799th NHL game. He scored his second goal of the season – both coming in the last two home games.

D Nick Schultz scored his first goal in 85 games, dating back to Oct. 8, 2009, at Los Angeles. Schultz’ last goal that didn’t come against Los Angeles was March 17, 2009, against Colorado.

D Brent Burns posted an assist, giving him six points (3-3=6) this season to lead Wild defensemen. Burns has a point in four of his last five games, with five points (2-3=5) in that span.

C Mikko Koivu has registered an assist in four consecutive games and has tallied a point in seven of the Wild’s eight games this season (2-7=9). That is Koivu’s longest assist streak since a six-game run Dec. 23, 2009-Jan, 2. 2010.

G Niklas Backstrom made 32 saves and is 3-2-2 with a 2.25 GAA and a .926 SV% this season. Backstrom has lost nine of 10 shootouts, including six straight since defeating Anaheim on Dec. 4, 2009.

D Clayton Stoner registered his first point, an assist, of the season.

The Wild has outscored its opponents 7-3 in the first period of its four games at Xcel Energy Center this season. Overall, Minnesota has outscored its opponents 11-6 in the opening 20 minutes this season.

Eight of the past 13 games between the Wild and Kings have been decided by one goal.

The Wild wore its green third jerseys for the second time this season. The Wild is 9-3-3 all-time at home in its third jerseys, including an 0-1-1 mark this season.

Minnesota is 0-2 in shootouts, while Los Angeles is 2-0.

The Wild lost when leading by two goals for the first time since April 10, 2010, a 4-3 home shootout loss to Dallas.
