Fantasy Pick: Cal Clutterbuck
Today's Minnesota Wild Fantasy Spotlight was a tough one. No, it's not that we couldn't think of a Wild player to feature, the problem was selecting just one from the throng of Wild players that have been amazingly great the past few games. Gritty guys notching overtime winners, defensmen stealing pucks like they belong in jail and goaltenders that continue to play better with each game - who to pick?
Well, if there's one thing Movember has taught us, it's this: when in doubt, go with the stache. Thus, Wild fan favorite Cal Clutterbuck gets the nod for the limelight today as the Wild host the New York Rangers tonight.
Clutter continues to climb the scoring charts and send plenty of hits to the opposing team. After Brent Burns scored the opening goal in Detroit last night to tie Clutterbuck for the team lead in goals, Cal quickly took back his title as top scorer by banking a shot off of Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard's pads from behind the Detroit net.
Clutterbuck tops the Wild with seven goals on the season, tallying five of those markers in his last seven games; now that's some stache power.
As Clutterbuck finds his scoring touch, he has not lost the physical side of his game. He ranks second in the NHL in hits with 76 hits. Clutter might have a little extra push in his checks tonight as he faces off against the Rangers Ryan Callahan, the only player above him with 79 hits.
