Postgame Notes vs. San Jose - Dec. 29
C Kyle Brodziak notched his seventh career two-goal game and D Brent Burns snapped a tie midway through Minnesota’s three-goal third period, as the Wild defeated the San Jose Sharks 5-3 in front of an overflow sellout crowd of 19,131 – the seventh largest regular season crowd ever at Xcel Energy Center. RW Chuck Kobasew also scored in the third, C Mikko Koivu added a goal, Burns (1-1=2) and RW Martin Havlat (0-2=2) had two points apiece, and G Niklas Backstrom made 29 saves for Minnesota, which swept the home season series for San Jose for the second time ever. The Wild is 4-1-1 in its last six and hosts Nashville on Friday at 5 p.m.

C Kyle Brodziak recorded his seventh career two-goal game – third this season. Brodziak has four goals in the last four home games.

D Brent Burns notched the game-winning goal with 10:45 left in the third period, his team-leading 11th goal of the season. He is four off his career-high and team-record for defenseman total of 15, set in 2007-08.

C Mikko Koivu, playing in his 398th NHL game, scored his ninth goal of the season. It marked his second goal in 19 career games against San Jose, with the other coming in overtime March 5, 2009, at San Jose.

RW Chuck Kobasew scored a goal and has three points (2-1=3) in his last two games.

D Nick Schultz had an assist, giving him points in three straight games to tie his career-high.

The Wild has won consecutive home games against San Jose for the first time since a three-game stretch from April 8, 2002-Feb. 7, 2003. Tonight also marked the Wild’s second season sweep of the Sharks at home, with the other coming in 2002-03.

Minnesota won a game when trailing after two periods for the first time since March 25, 2010, at Philadelphia. The last time the Wild rallied after two for a win at home was Jan. 9, 2010, against Chicago. Minnesota trailed 5-1 after 40 minutes but won 6-5 in a shootout.

The Wild went 1-for-5 on the man advantage. Minnesota is 9-for-40 on the power play in the last 10 games, with goals in eight of those contests.

Minnesota is 5-2-2 this season against the Pacific Division, matching its win total last season against the Pacific (5-14-1).

The Wild scored five goals against San Jose for just the second time in team history, the other coming in a 6-1 win Oct. 19, 2005.
