G Pekka Rinne made 22 saves, as the Nashville Predators defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-1 in front of 18,285 at Xcel Energy Center. RW Chuck Kobasew scored a goal in his third straight game, and G Niklas Backstrom made 28 saves for Minnesota, which hosts Phoenix on Sunday at 5 p.m.
RW Chuck Kobasew scored his sixth goal this season – and third in as many games. This marks Kobasew’s third career three-game goal streak, the first since March 13-16, 2008.
RW Martin Havlat had an assist, giving him three helpers in his last two games, and six points (1-5=6) in his last six games. Havlat leads the Wild in assists (26) and points (8-26=34).
C Mikko Koivu played in his 399th NHL game.
The Wild fell to 5-3-0 all-time at home on New Year’s Eve and 5-4-0 overall on New Year’s Eve.
Minnesota allowed two empty net goals for the first time in franchise history.
