Fantasy Pick: Matt Cullen
When the Wild is playing as well as the team has been lately, it's a tough task to decide who deserves the limelight of a Fantasy Spotlight selection. So today, we go back to the root of Minnesota Wild Fantasy Spotlight: which player is most likely to earn points for you tonight on your fantasy hockey team.
Matt Cullen has shown consistent play this season, but his point production has faced ups and downs on the year. However, he's always big nights in Minnesota's contests against tonight's opponent, the Colorado Avalanche. The Minnesota native has 10 points (7-3=10) in six games against the Avs this season.
Cullen's hot streak against Colorado isn't just a one-year aberration; he has potted 11 goals against the Avalanche in 30 games over the course of his career. The 11 markers are tied for his most against any one team (Montreal and Philadelphia) and the figure is even more impressive when you remember the 34-year-old has spent the majority of his career playing against Eastern Conference teams.
Cullen has also been adding to his point streak at a nice pace lately, totaling seven points (2-5=7) in his past six games. On the season, he ranks fourth on the Wild with 31 points (10-21=31) in 47 games, leading the team with a 54.4% faceoff percentage and T-2nd in the NHL with three shorthanded goals.
