G Niklas Backstrom made 24 saves, and RW Antti Miettinen, C Kyle Brodziak and RW Cal Clutterbuck scored a goal apiece, as the Minnesota Wild capped off 2011 Hockey Day Minnesota and completed a home-and-home sweep of the St. Louis Blues, 3-1, in front of an overflow sellout crowd of 19,322 – the fourth-largest regular season crowd ever at Xcel Energy Center. Minnesota, which improved to 9-2-0 in its last 11 games, hosts NHL-leading Vancouver on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
G Niklas Backstrom made 24 saves to improve to 5-2-0 in his last seven starts. In his last seven games, Backstrom is 5-2-0 with a 1.42 GAA and a .956 SV%.
RW Cal Clutterbuck scored his team-leading 17th goal. Clutterbuck, who scored three times in the home-and-home with St. Louis, has new career-highs this season in goals (17), assists (10) and points (27).
C Kyle Brodziak scored his 11th goal of the season. In the Wild’s 9-2-0 stretch, Brodziak has 10 points (2-8=10) and is a plus-eight. Brodziak and RW Martin Havlat are tied for the team lead in that span in both points and plus-minus.
RW Antti Miettinen scored his 11th goal this season, and his third in seven games.
RW Martin Havlat skated in his 598th NHL game.
The Wild improved to 3-1-1 all-time on Hockey Day Minnesota, which this year featured 14 hours of hockey programming on FOX Sports North, including two outdoor high school games from Moorhead, and a University of Minnesota game.
The Wild has won four straight home games for the first time since Jan. 23-Feb. 6, 2010.
Minnesota had its penalty kill streak snapped at 17 straight chances.
The Wild improved to 24-3-2 when scoring three or more goals and 25-2-4 when scoring first.
Minnesota is 17-7-1 in its past 25 contests, holding opponents to one goal or less 12 update times.
