C Pavel Datsyuk notched the deciding goal in the shootout, G Jimmy Howard made 25 saves for and D Nicklas Lidstrom scored early in the third period, leading the Detroit Red Wings past the Minnesota Wild 2-1 in front of an overflow sellout crowd of 18,912 at Xcel Energy Center. RW Martin Havlat scored a goal for his 500th NHL point and G Niklas Backstrom made 38 saves for Minnesota, which plays host to Edmonton on Tuesday. The Wild moved into sixth place in the Western Conference with the point, and will end the night no worse than in seventh. Calgary hosts Edmonton tonight in the Heritage Classic.

G Niklas Backstrom made 38 saves. Backstrom is 5-2-1 with a 1.36 GAA and a .953 SV% in his last eight starts, allowing two goals or less seven times, and one goal or fewer five times. Backstrom is 1-4-3 all-time against Detroit. He entered the game with a 3.57 GAA and a .903 SV% against Detroit, allowing three goals or more in seven of eight starts against the Red Wings.

RW Martin Havlat tied the game with 4:50 gone in the third period, giving him 500 career points (205-295=500) in 602 NHL games. Havlat played in his 600th NHL game Wednesday in Chicago.

Shootout goals do not count as a team goal against. The Wild allowed one goal or less versus Detroit for the first time in 26 games since a 1-1 tie on Nov. 25, 2003. It marked the second time in 39 gall-time meetings that the Wild has allowed one goal or less against the Red Wings.

Minnesota is 2-5 in shootouts, while Detroit is 3-2.

Minnesota is 10-4-1 in its last 15 games overall, and 5-1-1 in its last seven home games.

The Wild has earned points in six of the past seven home games vs. Detroit (2-1-4).

The Wild is 18-9-2 in its past 29 contests, holding opponents to one goal or less 14 times.

Detroit RW Todd Bertuzzi skated in his 1,000th NHL game.
