Wild Signs Foucault To Entry Level Deal

A day after coming to terms with the Western Hockey League's Goaltender of the Year Darcy Kuemper, the Minnesota Wild signed another WHL product. And this one's a scorer.

The Wild signed left wing Kris Foucault of the Calgary Hitmen to a three-year entry level deal on Friday, locking up another prospect acquired via the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

In his final season of junior hockey, Foucault led the Hitmen in scoring with 48 points. He tied for the team lead with 25 goals and was third with 23 assists. He also registered 11 multi-point games. At the completion of his season, Foucault signed an amateur tryout contract with the Houston Aeros and appeared in one game.

One year earlier, the fourth round pick (103rd overall) helped Calgary to the WHL championship by posting 43 points (22-21=43) in 68 games, and then adding nine goals and seven assists in 23 playoff games. He was a teammate that season of fellow Wild prospect Joel Broda, who is currently with the Aeros.

Foucault's signing could be the last of the summer from the 2009 Draft class. The Wild made eight selections that year. Two of them - Nick Leddy and Alexander Fallstrom - were dealt in trades for Cam Barker and Chuck Kobasew, respectively. Foucault joins Kuemper and Matthew Hackett as the three that have signed. Only Jere Sallinen, Erik Haula and Anthony Hamburg remain unsigned, and Haula and Hamburg don't need to be due to remaining college eligibility.
