Wild Prospects Report - Oct. 12


HOUSTON AEROS (1-0-0-0, 2 pts, 3rd in West Division) – Houston won its first game of the season 4-1 Sunday, October 9 vs. Chicago. Casey Wellman led with two goals, while Jed Ortmeyer and Jon DiSalvatore each contributed one. Wellman, Kris Foucault and Jeff Taffe each posted a two-point game. Goaltender Matt Hackett blocked 24 of 25 shots for a .960 SV%. The Aeros have a packed week ahead, playing three games in a row through the weekend. They face Texas on the road Friday and take on San Antonio at home Saturday before heading to Oklahoma City Sunday.  Last season, the Aeros advanced to the Calder Cup finals for the second time in team history, losing to the Binghamton Senators in six games. The team was led in the regular season by Jon DiSalvatore, who posted 61 points (28-33=61) in 80 games, while Matt Hackett led with a .916 SV%, a 2.37 GAA and 23 wins in 45 games.

Canadian Hockey Leagues
   

D Josh Caron - Kamloops (WHL): The 2010 free agent signing has picked up three assists through six games and leads his team with 29 penalty minutes. He has a helper in each of the last two contests, and is a +9 on the season. 

C Tyler Graovac - Ottawa (OHL): The seventh round pick (191st overall) in the 2011 Draft is averaging better than a point per game through seven contests. He's scored three goals and added five assists. Thus far, he has posted two multi-point games, including a four-point effort on October 8 with two goals and two assists. He is a +4 so far this season.

D Colton Jobke - Regina (WHL): The 2010 free agent signing has been a +2 in three of six games so far this season and stands at +7 for the season. He has one goal on the year.

C Zack Phillips - Saint John (QMJHL): The first  round pick (28th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft ranks tied for his team's lead with 10 points in six games. He leads the team with six assists and has also potted four goals. He is a +5 on the season.
   
College/USHL

C Charlie Coyle - Boston University (Hockey East): San Jose's first round pick in 2010 (28th overall) registered two assists as Boston University shut out New Hampshire, 1-0, in their first game of the season. He was a +2 on the night.

C Anthony Hamburg - Omaha (USHL):
The seventh round pick (193rd overall) in the 2009 Draft missed two games with an injury but has rejoined the team for practice. He's played one game thus far.

LW Erik Haula - Minnesota (WCHA): The seventh round pick (182nd overall) in 2009 posted five points on three goals and two assists in a two-game sweep of Sacred Heart over the weekend. He leads the team with 12 shots and is tied for the team lead with a +6 rating.

D Sean Lorenz - Notre Dame (CCHA): Fourth round pick (115th overall) in 2008 posted a power play goal and an assist in Notre Dame's split with UMD over the weekend. He was a +1 in the series.

LW Mario Lucia - Penticton (BCHL): Second round pick (60th overall) in 2011 Draft has racked up six goals and six assists in just seven games to rank third on his team in scoring, and second in goals. He leads the club with three power play goals and is currently on a five-game scoring streak. 

D Nick Seeler - Muskegon (USHL): Fifth round pick (131st overall) in 2011 has appeared in two games with Muskegon and has four shots on goal.

F Jason Zucker - Denver (WCHA): Second round pick (59th overall) in 2010 Draft has yet to play a regular season game with Denver, which opens its schedule this weekend against Boston College and Boston University. He had two goals in an exhibition game.

International

D
Jonas Brodin - Farjestads BK Karlstad (Sweden): The first round selection (10th overall) in the 2011 Draft has posted one assist through nine games thus far. He is a +2, and one of only two players on his team with a positive rating.

F Mikael Granlund - HIFK Helsinki (Finland):
The first round selection (ninth overall) in 2010  ranks second on his team in scoring with four goals and 10 assists through eight games. He leads both the team, and the League in assists, and is a +9.

D Bjorn Krupp - Cologne (Germany): The 2009 free agent signing has picked up a pair of assists through eight games this season.

RW Johan Larsson - Brynas (Sweden): The second round selection (56th overall) in the 2010 Draft has two goals and three assists in 10 games to rank fifth on the team in points, and tied for second in assists.

Goaltenders

Johan Gustafsson - Lulea HF (Sweden): The sixth round pick (159th overall) in the 2010 Draft has shared goaltending duties and has played five of the team's 10 games. He owns a 1.77 goals against average and a .927 save percentage.

Stephen Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): The sixth round pick (161st overall) in 2011 is with Harvard, which has yet to play a game this season.
