Defenseman Kris Fredheim, who was playing for the Houston Aeros on a minor league contract, signed an entry level deal with the Wild today. Fredheim will join the Wild in time for Thursday's home game against the Colorado Avalanche. He will wear sweater #59.
While never previously under contract with Minnesota, Fredheim is no stranger to the organization. He participated in the Wild's Development Camp this summer, as well as the Traverse City Prospects Tournament in September. Fredheim spent last year with the Aeros and tallied three goals and six assists in 66 games.
Through 15 games this year, he has two assists and leads the Aeros with a +7 rating. Before turning pro, the 24-year-old spent four seasons with Colorado College where he was a teammate of current Wild defenseman, Nate Prosser. While there, he posted 32 points (8-24=32) in 125 games.
The callup of Fredheim comes after the Wild had already lost defensemen Mike Lundin (back), Greg Zanon (groin) and Marco Scandella (concussion). Last night, Marek Zidlicky left the 3-2 win over Columbus after taking a hit to the head. There is no official word on Zidlicky, but he is not expected to be able to play. Clayton Stoner has also been playing with an injured hand.
Of all the injured defensemen, it seems as though Lundin is the closest to returning.
To make room for Fredheim, Guillaume Latendresse (concussion) has been placed on injured reserve.
