Prospects Invited To Team Canada\'s Camp

A pair of the Minnesota Wild’s prized prospects will have a shot at representing their country at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Brett Bulmer, 19. and Zack Phillips, 19, are among the 41 players invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp, Dec. 10 to 14 in Calgary, Alberta.

Bulmer, a native of Prince George, British Columbia, currently skates on the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He was selected in the second round (39th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The lanky right winger was a surprise out of Wild Training Camp, skating in nine regular-season games before being assigned to Kelowna. He tallied three assist while skating with the Wild. In 10 games with the Rockets, Bulmer has compiled 15 points (5g, 10a), is a plus-6 and has 20 PIM.

Phillips, Minnesota’s first-round (28th overall) pick of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, skates for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). In 26 games, the Fredericton, New Brunswick native has compiled 46 points (16g, 30a) and is plus-28. He leads the Sea Dogs in points and is tied for fourth in QMJHL scoring.

Among those invited, 36 of the players were drafted in either the 2009 or 2010 NHL Entry Drafts, including 14 first-round selections and nine second-round picks.

The camp will include two Red-White intrasquad games on Dec. 11 and 12, and one game against a team of all-stars from Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS). The CIS team will be comprised of players from the University of Calgary and University of Lethbridge.

Once the final roster is named at the conclusion of the selection camp on Dec. 14, Canada’s National Junior Team will play in three pre-competition games in Alberta prior to the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2011 to Jan. 5, 2012 in Calgary and Edmonton.
