The Wild picked up its third defenseman prior to the trade dealine in getting Steven Kampfer from the Boston Bruins. To get the 23-year-old Kampfer, the Wild gave up its third blueliner in the last three days, sending Greg Zanon out East.
Kampfer has split this season between Boston and Providence of the AHL. In 10 games with Boston this season, he's posted two assists and a +6 rating. Last year, he appeared in 38 games with the Boston Bruins, notching five goals and five assists.
Kampfer is a native of Ann Arbor and played his college hockey with the University of Michigan. He will report to the Houston Aeros tomorrow.
Zanon, who was to be a free agent at the end of the season, leaves after nearly three seasons in Minnesota. He was among the Wild's best shot blockers and had scored two goals and four assists through 39 games.
