G Jonathan Bernier made 26 saves, and C Anze Kopitar and RW Justin Williams each had a goal and an assist in a three-goal first period, as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-0 at Xcel Energy Center. G Niklas Backstrom made 11 saves for Minnesota, which plays back-to-back at Montreal and Detroit on Thursday and Friday before returning home Sunday to play Colorado at 6 p.m.

C Kyle Brodziak skated in his 400th NHL game.

D Tom Gilbert, acquired in a trade with Edmonton on Monday, made his Wild debut, becoming the team-record 43rd player to play for Minnesota this season. Gilbert became the seventh Minnesotan to play for the Wild this season and the 14th all-time.

D Marco Scandella picked up his first career fighting major, with C Jordan Nolan in the third period.

The Wild was shut out at home for the first time this season.

Minnesota hasn’t scored a regulation goal at home versus the Kings in 182:18, dating back to the first period Oct. 25, 2010. The Wild scored a shootout tally in a 1-0 home win over Los Angeles on Feb. 1, 2011.

The Wild outshot the Kings 26-15.

Los Angeles led 3-0 after one despite being entering the game scoring 30 first-period goals – seven fewer than any other NHL team.

The Wild is 24-4-3 when allowing two goals or fewer and 4-22-6 when yielding three or more.

Minnesota is 3-4-4 all-time in the game after the NHL’s trade deadline.
