Nate Prosser has been suspended for one game for an incident that occurred during the the Wild’s 2-1 shootout victory against the Chicago Blackhawks yesterday. Prosser will miss tomorrow’s season finale against the Phoenix Coyotes at Xcel Energy Center.
The incident occurred at 18:19 of the first period. After a whistle and a small scrum, Prosser and Mayers were locked up in front of Minnesota’s net. Mayers grabbed ahold of Prosser, who leaned forward on the play. The top of Prosser’s helmet struck Mayers in the face. A major penalty and game misconduct for head-butting were assessed on the play, and the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety assesed a one-game suspension for head-butting.
“I know what was happening, I think he just leaned in to kind of get in his face a little bit,” said Head Coach Mike Yeo after the game. “I know Nate Prosser and I know he’s not intentionally head-butting a guy.”
The Wild will have to recall two emergency defensemen from the Houston Aeros, but will not make that decision on which players will be recalled until after tonight’s Aeros game.
