NBC Sports To Televise World Championships

Wild fans pining to see Mikko Koivu and prospect Mikael Granlund in action this summer are in luck.

The NBC Sports Network will televise at least 13 games of the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship, May 4-20, in Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden, including all Team USA games.

This means the May 13, Mother’s Day matchup between Team USA and Team Finland will be broadcast stateside live at 8:15 a.m. CST.

Koivu and Granlund are expected to skate for the Finns as they look to defend last year’s World Championship gold medal win. You might remember Granlund’s sensational lacrosse-style goal in the semifinals against Team Russia, which was commemorated on a Finnish postage stamp. Finland opens its preliminary-round against Team Belarus on Friday, May 4.

The NBC Sports Network also will air all four quarterfinal games, at least one semifinal matchup and the gold-medal game (same-day delay). The tape delay of the gold medal game will broadcast at 8 p.m. CST, Sunday, May 20.

Team USA opens play on Friday, May 4, with a preliminary-round game against France. All Team USA games will air live on NBC Sports Network, with the exception of its preliminary-round game on May 5, which will be aired later that night on delay.

Last year, NBC Sports Network (formerly VERSUS) televised the IIHF Men's World Championship for the first time. There will be additional coverage this year, including all seven USA preliminary-round games and all four quarterfinal games live.

NBC Sports Network will also produce pre-game, intermission and post-game updates, providing viewers with analysis of the games before, during and after the action.
