Wild For Wounded Warriors At Tough Mudder

Minnesota Wild Head Coach Mike Yeo and the Wild for Wounded Warriors Team is preparing for Tough Mudder, a 12-mile endurance challenge that is the ultimate test of strength, grit, stamina and camaraderie. Wild staff members will participate in the Twin Cities Tough Mudder event, taking place on Saturday, May 19 at the Somerset Amphitheater in Somerset, Wisconsin.

In addition to their rigorous training sessions, the Wild for Wounded Warriors Team is raising funds to support the Wounded Warrior Project, Tough Mudder’s official charity partner. Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization aimed at helping American servicemen and servicewomen who have been severely injured in combat. To date, Tough Mudder has raised over $3 million to support these efforts. Donate to the Wild for Wounded Warriors fundraising efforts, here.

Designed by British Special Forces, Tough Mudder features more than 20 military-style obstacles, such as “Funky Monkey,” greased-up monkey bars; “Fire Walker,” a run through 4-foot-high flames; and “Electroshock Therapy,” a gauntlet of 10,000-volt-charged dangling wires. The event is not about finish times or winning a medal—simply completing a Tough Mudder is a badge of honor. On average, only 78% of participants finish a Tough Mudder event, and with a course designed to be impossible to complete individually, 80% of participants register with a team.

“We are excited to participate in the Twin Cities Tough Mudder and help raise money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project,” said Yeo. “We encourage fans to support our efforts and donate to the Wild for Wounded Warriors Team.”

The following Minnesota Wild staff members make up the Wild for Wounded Warriors Team and are scheduled to participate in the Twin Cities Tough Mudder: Head Coach Mike Yeo, Assistant Coach Darby Hendrickson, Assistant Coach Darryl Sydor, Strength and Conditioning Coach Kirk Olson, Head Athletic Therapist Don Fuller, Head Equipment Manager Tony DaCosta, Assistant Equipment Manager Matt Benz and Assistant Athletic Trainer John Worley.

Founded in 2010, Tough Mudder is the nation’s fastest-growing and most-recognized endurance series. In 2011, Tough Mudder hosted 14 events and expands to 35 events in 2012 in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia. Unlike other traditional endurance events or mud runs, Tough Mudder events are designed by British Special Forces to offer a 10- to 12-mile trail-running experience like no other. Located outside major metropolitan cities, courses are based on rugged terrain, featuring steep inclines and water hazards, highlighted by 25 to 30 military-style obstacles testing one’s fitness, strength, stamina, mental grit, teamwork and toughness.
