It's time to clean out the attics, basements and garages of all your used skates, gloves, breezers and other hockey gear.

The Minnesota Wild, Let’s Play Hockey and Minnesota Hockey will again team to collect equipment to outfit youth players in the State of Hockey. The fourth annual Used Hockey Equipment Drive will culminate in a public distribution from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Xcel Energy Center.

“Last season, we were able to distribute more than 3,000 pieces of hockey equipment to over 700 people, thanks to the generosity of Minnesotans,” Let’s Play Hockey publisher Doug Johnson said. “This is a great opportunity for people who want to stay in hockey, or begin to play for the first time.”

Berger Transfer will place drop-off boxes throughout the Twin Cities at select arenas and hockey shops, beginning Thursday, Aug. 23, through Tuesday, Oct. 2. Goalie equipment, as well as sticks and helmets, are in the most need.

Drop-off locations this year include: Apple Valley Sports Arena, Bielenberg Sports Center (Woodbury), Bloomington Ice Garden, Braemar Arena (Edina), Burnsville Ice Center, Delano Sports Arena, Drake Arena (St. Paul), Eagan Civic Arena, Eden Prairie Community Center, Hastings Civic Arena, Maple Grove Community Center, New Hope Ice Arena, Pagel Activity Center (Minnetonka), Plymouth Ice Center, Polar Arena (North St. Paul), Rogers Activity Center, Schwan Super Rink (Blaine), St. Croix Valley Recreation Center (Stillwater), St. Thomas Ice Arena (Mendota Heights), Tartan Arena (Oakdale) and White Bear Lake Sports Center.

Boehm’s in St. Paul and Westwood Sports in Apple Valley and Bloomington will have drop-off locations. Gear also can be donated at all four Total Hockey locations: Burnsville, Edina, Minnetonka and Maplewood.

Sponsors and partners for the program include Berger Transfer, Boehm’s, FOX Sports North, Herb Brooks Foundation, Let’s Play Hockey, Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association, Minnesota High School Hockey Coaches Association, Minnesota Hockey, Minnesota Ice Arena Managers Association, Minnesota Wild, Total Hockey, Upper Midwest High School Elite Hockey League and Westwood Sports.
