Houston suffered an opening night home loss at the hands of the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday, 3-1, and was edged by the San Antonio Rampage, 3-2, in a Sunday matinee game.

In the home opener, 8,132 fans watched Jonas Brodin score his first North American professional goal on Saturday night at the Toyota Center in Houston. Marco Scandella and Carson McMillan assisted on the team’s first goal of the season. Matt Hackett made 35 saves on 37 shots in the losing effort, with the Checkers adding an empty net goal with 55 seconds left in the game. For the game recap, click here.

In San Antonio on Sunday, Charlie Coyle and Jason Zucker both scored their first professional goals. On a first period power play, Coyle put home a feed from Mikael Granlund, with Zucker collecting the second assist, putting the Aeros up 1-0.

The Rampage responded with two second period goals, before Zucker tied the score at 2-2. At 18:54 of the second period with the Aeros on the man advantage, the former Denver Pioneer buried his first-career goal taking a pass from defenseman Brian Connelly. Coyle also added an assist on the play. Hackett made 25 saves in the loss. For the game recap, click here.
