Harding Diagnosed With MS

Josh Harding
today announced that he has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He is currently undergoing treatment for the disease.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Josh and his family following the news that he has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis,” said General Manager Chuck Fletcher. “Josh’s competitive fire has led him to a successful career in the NHL and we know he will approach this new battle in the same manner.”

The 28-year-old was drafted by the Wild in the second round (38th overall) and has played parts of six seasons with Minnesota. After missing all of the 2010-11 regular season due to a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee suffered in a preseason game at St. Louis (9/24) Harding came back strong posting career-highs in games played (34), wins (13) and shutouts (2) in 2011-12 posting a .917 save percentage and a 2.62 goals against average and was rewarded by Minnesota with a three-year contract extension on June 19, 2012.

Harding has 41 wins, a .916 save percentage and a 2.65 goals-against average in 117 career NHL appearances.

Multiple sclerosis is an incurable autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system. There are 25,000 new cases of MS diagnosed in the United States every year.
