Aeros Look To Overtake First
The Houston Aeros will have a chance to take over possession of first place in the AHL’s South Division as the club travels to the Charlotte Checkers for two games today and tomorrow. The Aeros (13-7-1-2, 29 points) trail the Checkers (14-9-0-2, 30 points) by one point in the division.
Tonight will mark the second meeting of the season between Houston and Charlotte, with the Checkers taking the first meeting 3-1.
On Tuesday, the Aeros trounced the San Antonio Rampage, 5-1, at home on Tuesday. It was the seventh win in the last eight games for Houston. The Aeros are 8-2-0-0 in the last ten games. The team has been road warriors this season, going 6-3-0-0 away from the Toyota Center. Houston is outscoring opponents 32-26 on the road this season.
After a hot start propelling the team to the top of the South Division, the Checkers have stalled of late, losing six of its last eight games.
The Aeros return home to take on the Oklahoma City Barons on Sunday. The Barons stand fourth in the South with an 11-9-1-2 record. Sunday marks the 10th annual Aeros Teddy Bear Toss. Houston fans throw stuffed animals on the ice when the team scores its first goal of the game.The Aeros are partnering with KHOU 11 to help with the station’s Secret Santa Toy Drive. Last season, the team collected nearly 1,500 stuffed animals for KHOU 11.
Bears Take East Coast Swing
The Orlando Solar Bears, the Wild’s ECHL affiliate, skates for a second-straight win for the first time in nearly a month. The Bears roasted the Fort Wayne Komets, 6-2, on Sunday.
The team takes a three-game road swing up the East Coast this weekend, as they try to climb out of fifth place in the South Division.
The Solar Bears meet the Elmira Jackals tonight. The Jackals (10-10-1-1, 22 points) rank second in the Atlantic Division. Orlando then heads to the Reading Royals (16-7-0-1, 33 points) leaders of the Atlantic. The Bears close out the three-in-three against the Trenton Titans (8-11-1-2, 19 points).
