Friday Forecast - Dec. 21

Aeros Seek Revenge Against Lake Erie

Yesterday, the Houston Aeros, the Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, were edged on the road by the Lake Erie Monsters, 4-3. Jarod Palmer, Joel Broda scored for the Aeros, while Drew Bagnall bagged his first goal of the season in the loss. Forward Nick Palmieri chipped in with two assists. Goaltender Matt Hackett made 17 saves in defeat.

The game was knotted at three until Andrew Agozzino scored with 1:04 left in regulation to push the Monsters out front.

If the Mayan calendar is wrong about the end of the world, Houston will get a chance to avenge the loss, as the squad plays Lake Erie at Quicken Loans Arena again Saturday, Dec. 22.

The Aeros (14-9-1-3, 32 points) are in third place in the AHL’s South Division. The club returns home on Wednesday, Dec. 26 to host the Texas Stars at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,000 fans will receive an Aeros knit cap, presented by Living Social. Fans are also encouraged to wear Ugly Holiday sweaters. After the match, the annual Guns N Hoses game, featuring the Houston Police Department versus the Houston Fire Department will take place.

Solar Bears Get Familiar Opponent

On Wednesday, the Orlando Solar Bears, the Wild’s ECHL affiliate, mauled interstate rival the Florida Everblades, 5-1, on the road.

Center Mathew Sisca led the way with two third-period goals, while John Curry backstopped the team with a 30 save performance. Nick Petersen, Bryce Lampman and Michael Neal added goals in the win. The win stopped a three-game skid for Orlando.

The Bears will skate against Florida for its next four contests in what will quickly develop into a surly interstate rivalry. Orlando will be on the road against the Everblades tonight and Saturday, Dec. 22, before hosting Florida on Friday, Dec. 28 and Saturday, Dec. 29.

The Bears (11-14-2-2, 26 points) hope that the four-game series can help move them out of fifth place in the ECHL’s South Division.
