Houston Aeros: 14-10-1-3, 32 points, Third Place South Division
The Houston Aeros look for a Boxing Day present tonight, as the club hosts the Texas Stars for the fifth of 12 meetings this season. Houston is 3-1-0-0 in the season series.
In this year’s season series, Houston’s Mikael Granlund and Jason Zucker lead all scorers with five points each. Granlund has two goals and three assists in three games against Texas, while Zucker has three goals and five points in four games versus the Stars.
Houston then hosts the South Division leading Charlotte Checkers (18-9-0-3, 39 points) on Friday, Dec. 28. The Aeros then hit the road for a New Year’s Day game interstate rival the San Antonio Rampage.
The Aeros have gone struggled in the last two weeks, going 1-3-0-1 in the last five games. Houston is coming off a pair of road losses against the Lake Erie Monsters. On Thursday, Dec. 20, the Aeros were downed by Lake Erie, 4-3. Drew Bagnall, Jarod Palmer and Joel Broda scored for Houston, while goaltender Matt Hackett made 17 saves in the loss. Saturday, Dec. 22, the Aeros suffered a 5-2 defeat to the Monsters. Charlie Coyle and Nick Palmieri scored, while Hackett made 23 saves.
Wild Prospects Update
Canadian Hockey Leagues
LW Raphael Bussieres - Baie-Comeau (QMJHL): The Wild’s second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft had an assist in one game last week. On the season, the forward has 18 goals, 26 assists and a plus-21 rating.
D Mathew Dumba - Red Deer (WHL): Minnesota’s first-round pick in June’s NHL Entry Draft was held off the score sheet last week. He has 17 points (7-10=17) in 34 games.
C Tyler Graovac - Ottawa (OHL): Ottawa had no games scheduled last week. Through 26 games, the forward has 30 points (18-12=30).
D Colton Jobke - Regina (WHL): Did not play for Regina last week after undergoing surgery to repair severed tendons in his left hand after being injured Nov. 9. Before the injury, Jobke had 13 points (1-12=13) and 42 PIM in 15 games.
D John Draeger - Michigan State (CCHA): Michigan State was off last week and will skate in the 48th Annual Great Lakes Invitational Dec. 29-30. In 16 games, the freshman has 5 points (1-4=5).
RW Adam Gilmour - Muskegon (USHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round selection in the June’s NHL Entry Draft scored two goals in two wins last week. He now leads the Lumberjacks in goals (10) and is second in points (23).
LW Erik Haula - University of Minnesota (WCHA): Minnesota did not play last week. Leads the Gophers in points (22) and assists (14), tied for the team lead in goals (8). The Gophers are ranked No. 4 in the country.
LW Louis Nanne - Penticton (BCHL): The Vees were off last week. Penticton is the No. 2 ranked team in the BCHL with a record of 22-8-0-3. In 27 games, he has 26 points (13-13=26).
D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (WCHA): The Mavericks didn’t play last week. The blueliner has seven points (2-5=7) and a plus-7 rating in 16 games. Nebraska-Omaha is ranked No. 12 in the country.
D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (SEL): Lulea did not play last week. In 31 games, the defenseman has five goals, five assists and a plus-5 rating.
Johan Gustafsson - Lulea HF (SEL): Lulea did not play last week. Leads all Swedish Elite League goalies in goals-against average (1.68 GAA) and ranks second in save percentage (.930 SV%), having stopped 450-of-484 shots.
Stephen Michalek - Cedar Rapids (USHL): Allowed three total goals in a loss last week. Owns a 3-3-1 record, a 3.12 goals against average and .885 save percentage.
