Aeros Stop Slide With OT Win
Houston Aeros defenseman Kyle Medvec jammed home a loose puck for the overtime winner against the Texas Stars on Wednesday for his first goal of the season. The Aeros beat the Stars in dramatic fashion, 4-3, and ending a two-game losing skid.
In the win, forwards Mikael Granlund (1-1=2), Charlie Coyle (1-1=2), Jason Zucker (0-2=2) and Nick Palmieri (1-1=2) all posted two-point games. Goaltender Matt Hackett made 27 saves, improving his record to 12-8-2.
Houston improved its home record to 9-4-1-2 on the season (15-10-1-3 overall) and moved into a third-place tie (34 points) with the Oklahoma City Barons in the South Division.
Tonight is Ugly Holiday Sweater Night at Toyota Center as the Aeros host the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05 p.m. It's the fourth of eight meetings between the two teams this season. Charlotte has taken all three of the previous meetings. Houston will travel to San Antonio on Saturday, Dec. 29, prior to returning home on New Year’s Day. The club rings in the New Year against the Oklahoma City Barons.
Solar Bears Finish Interstate Battle
The Orlando Solar Bears, the Wild’s ECHL affiliate, are on a two-game win streak, both coming against the interstate-rival Florida Everblades.
The two teams are amidst a five-game series, which concludes tonight in Orlando. The Solar Bears have taken three of four in the set, thus far.
Last night, the Bears beat the Everblades in a tight-checking game, 2-1. Orlando took a two-goal lead in the second period on goals from Dan Gendur and Scott Tanski. Netminder John Curry stopped 12 of 13 shots in the final frame to give the Solar Bears the victory.
