Aeros Play Three
When the National Hockey League returns to the ice, there will be a trickle down effect on the teams’ minor-league affiliates. The NHL Player’s Association is expected to ratify the new Collective Bargaining Agreement this weekend, which will kickoff league-wide training camps. When NHL training camps begin, players in the farm system could receive call-ups from the big club, which will alter the rosters, practices and travel schedules of the minor league teams.
However, the shifting pieces are still dependent on the NHLPA ratifying the new CBA, and, regardless of when that happens, the Houston Aeros (18-11-3-3, 42 points, third in the South Division) are set to have three games in three nights this weekend. The Aeros start the weekend tonight in Cedar Park to face the Texas Stars (19-11-3-2, 43 points), one point ahead of Houston in the South Division.
“You have to just go one game at a time; they are pretty draining once the third game comes around,” defenseman Tyler Cuma told Aeros.com. “But we have to look at each one as a potential to get two points.”
The Aeros own a 4-2-1-0 record against its interstate rival, but has suffered losses in its last two outing against the Stars. The Aeros will look to avenge a 4-3 overtime loss to the Stars on Jan. 6.
The Aeros will return home to close out the weekend against the Lake Erie Monsters (19-15-2-1, 41 points, third in the North Division) on Saturday and the South Division leading Charlotte Checkers (20-11-2-3, 45 points) on Sunday.
Today, Aeros General Manager Jim Mill announced the team signed defenseman Chris Reed to a professional tryout agreement (PTO). The 25-year old made his American Hockey League debut earlier this season in a one-game stint with the Springfield Falcons.
Solar Bears In Greenville For Pair
The Wild’s ECHL affiliate, the Orlando Solar Bears (15-18-2-2, 34 points), will play a pair of road games against South Division rival, the Greenville Road Warriors. It will be the third meeting between the clubs, with the Solar Bears earning a win and shootout loss against Greenville. The Road Warriors (21-14-2-1, 45 points) are in second place in the ECHL’s South Division.
The Orlando Solar Bears head into the weekend, coming off of a 4-0 loss at the hands of the North Division-leading Cincinnati Cyclones on Wednesday.
