LW Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored with 5:19 left in regulation to give the Wild a 3-2 victory over Columbus Tuesday night. C Mikko Koivu and D Tom Gilbert also scored for the Wild, while G Niklas Backstrom made 17 saves to earn the win.
LW Pierre-Marc Bouchard netted his 100th career goal and 18th career game winner. He now has three points (2-1=3) in six games after being limited to 97 games over the last three seasons. Minnesota is 66-19-6 all-time when Bouchard scores, including 33-8-3 since 12/20/07. The Wild is also 160-61-22 all-time when Bouchard records a point. Bouchard was stopped on a penalty shot, the Wild’s first of the season, with 4:11 left in regulation
C Mikko Koivu tallied a goal and an assist for his third consecutive two-point game, tallying three straight multi-point games for the first time since Feb. 12-March 3, 2010. He now has 24 points (8-16=24) in 24 career games vs. Columbus.
D Tom Gilbert extended his point streak to three games (2-3=5) with a first period goal. It’s his first three-game point streak since the final five games of the 2009-10 season (April 3-11, 2010).
D Ryan Suter (0-4=4) extended his assist streak to three games with a first-period assist.
D Jonas Brodin netted an assist and now has two helpers through his first three NHL games. Born July 12, 1993, he is the youngest active defenseman in the NHL.
Tonight marked the 500th game at Xcel Energy Center for the Minnesota Wild, including 33 preseason and 13 playoff contests. Total attendance for the first 500 games in franchise history stands at 9,178,333, including 17,584 tonight.
Minnesota completes their second and final set of back-to-back home games this season with a contest against the undefeated Chicago Blackhawks (6-0-0) Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on NBC Sports Network with Mike Emrick, Eddie Olczyk and Pierre McGuire calling the action.
